Why an Elevated Work Platform (EWP) Licence is Vital for Residents of Ormiston

Understanding an Elevated Work Platform (EWP) Licence

An Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence is a nationally recognised certification required for operating machinery designed to lift workers to elevated positions. Common equipment includes boom lifts and scissor lifts, which are essential for industries like construction, maintenance, and warehousing. In Queensland, anyone operating a boom-type elevated work platform with a reach exceeding 11 meters must hold a High-Risk Work Licence (HRWL), as outlined under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld). Obtaining an EWP licence ensures operators are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to handle this equipment safely and efficiently. The training covers essential topics such as risk management, hazard identification, and emergency procedures, reducing the likelihood of accidents in high-risk work environments.

The Importance of an EWP Licence in Queensland

Queensland has strict workplace safety regulations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and its accompanying regulations. These laws aim to minimise workplace injuries and fatalities by ensuring only trained and certified individuals operate high-risk machinery like elevated work platforms.

Failing to comply with these regulations can result in severe penalties, including fines, legal action, and even shutdowns of non-compliant worksites. By obtaining an EWP licence, workers demonstrate their competence and adherence to legal and safety standards, creating a safer work environment for all.

In addition to legal compliance, holding an EWP licence improves career prospects. Many industries in Queensland, including construction, maintenance, and industrial operations, require certified operators to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently. An EWP licence is not just a legal necessity—it is a valuable credential that opens doors to higher-paying jobs and greater job security.
