An Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence is a mandatory qualification for operating machinery such as boom lifts, scissor lifts, and other elevated platforms. These machines are crucial for various industries, including construction, maintenance, arboriculture, and warehousing, as they allow workers to perform tasks at heights safely and effectively. In Queensland, anyone operating an EWP with a boom length exceeding 11 meters must hold a High-Risk Work (HRW) licence. This regulation ensures that operators have the necessary training to handle equipment safely, minimising the risk of accidents and injuries.
The Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 govern the use of elevated work platforms in Queensland. These laws stipulate that operators of high-risk equipment must undergo proper training and obtain a licence before working with EWPs. This legal framework aims to create a safe working environment by ensuring that operators are skilled in handling equipment, identifying hazards, and responding to emergencies.
Adhering to Queensland regulations is crucial for preventing accidents in high-risk environments. A properly trained and licensed operator significantly reduces the likelihood of incidents, protecting the safety of both the operator and their coworkers.
Failing to comply with Queensland’s EWP licensing requirements can result in severe penalties, including hefty fines, legal action, and even worksite closures. Businesses and individuals are held accountable for meeting these obligations, emphasising the importance of proper training.
